Field skills are the single most important attributes of a geologist and lie at the core of geological training. This field skills module will include two residential field courses plus laboratory based classes. One field course, in September of Year 2, will be to the HW Highlands of Scotland and will focus on data acquisition in the field and the construction of geological maps. The second field course is to SW Britain in March of Year 2 and will provide training in sedimentary logging and log interpretation, together with structural analysis. Laboratory classes using the above areas as case studies will focus on the interpretation of thrust belts, aerial photography and geographical information systems (GIS).
