The course provides a practical and theoretical understanding of the hydrocarbon industry, petroleum geology and seismic reflection imaging. Topics include: the petroleum system; economics of exploring for and producing hydrocarbons; seismic reflection data acquisition, processing and interpretation; drilling methods, well design & borehole logging; seismic-well correlation; source rock accumulation and maturation; and hydrocarbon migration. Most of the course time is devoted to over 12 extended practical exercises that give students grounding in industry-standard analysis techniques and software.
