Module description

In your scientific career and beyond you will have to research topic in detail assess the information and write reports outlining and summarising the information and presenting a reasoned argument, both written and orally. In this semester 1 module you will focus on a topic in contemporary biology or biochemistry, under the supervision of a member of an academic staff. This topic could include a huge range of topics depending on your own interests, for example evolution, climate change, medicine, molecular biology, microbiology, virology, psychology, animal behaviour, genetic modification and structural biology. You will use a range of information databases to access literature in the library and on-line. Your review will follow the general format of a review article in a scientific journal giving you ands on experience of the world of scientific writing. You will then use your oral presentation skills to present an overview of the topic and the background literature at end of semester 1.
