Students enrolled on the LLB for Graduates Programme are entitled to register for 30 credits worth of optional law modules. However, many of the existing law modules are worth only 20 credits. The 10 credit dissertation module is designed to act as a 'top-up' or extension to these modules, thus enabling the student to obtain 30 credits overall.
The 10 credit dissertation module therefore will be taken in conjunction with a 20 credit optional law module. With the agreement of a member of staff teaching on the module, the student must formulate an essay topic related to the module. This member of staff will act as the student's supervisor. The topic is subject to formal approval by or on behalf of the head of school. Students are allowed to write only one such dissertation.
Supervisors will discuss and comment on the formulation of the topic, the bibliography, the general structure of the essay and at least one draft of a section/chapter. The exact nature, content and timing of the submission of the section/chapter to be read is to be agreed between the student and the supervisor.
