Module description

This module aims to provide students with an introduction to the study of North American cinema. It examines selected films with reference to topics of nationhood and identity in North America. It is designed to introduce students to a range of filmic forms and genres and to develop critical approaches to film. Topics include ethnicity, immigration and Americanisation; race and representation; cinema and the Cold War; cinema and the Vietnam War.
