Module description

The module will consider modern tragicomedy from Chekhov’s realism through to metatheatre and the absurd, the work of Beckett and Ionesco, and will also look at contemporary writers such as Alan Bennett. We will discuss a conceptual framework for tragicomedy as one which aims to offer a more complicated understanding of and philosophical position on human experience than tragedy or comedy and to elicit a more complex audience response.
