This module offers the opportunity to improve a reading knowledge of Old English and to explore the nature, meanings and uses of Old English poetic language in Old English elegiac poetry and related texts. Students investigate the elegy, studying 'The Wanderer', 'The Seafarer' and 'The Ruin' in detail and alongside related texts (e.g. other elegies, wisdom poetry, homilies).
