You will develop your skills in analysing and transcribing spoken interactions, and will learn to identify characteristics of different types and genres of spoken interaction, such as everyday conversation, stories, political discourse and business talk. You will learn about a number of theoretical approaches for the analysis of spoken interactions, and learn to use a range of methods of analysis. In addition to carrying out some short analysis and transcription tasks, you will have the opportunity to carry out a project in which you record, transcribe and analyse a piece of spoken discourse of your choice.
