Module description

You will learn in this module how the Roman Army was a key feature of the conquest, safeguarding and ultimate loss of the province of Britannia. Its physical remains (forts, frontiers, weaponry etc) form an important part of the archaeology of Roman Britain and their comprehension is vital to your full understanding of the history and character of the province. Equally, Britain is a key province for your study of the Roman Army on an empire-wide basis, through a combination of the exemplary remains in Britain and the long and important tradition of study of and scholarship on the Roman Army in Britain.
