Module description

This module will consolidate, develop and extend listening, reading, speaking and writing skills acquired in Ab Initio Spanish III and IV. Receptive and productive skills will be developed within a range of contexts in Spanish by the use of authentic materials, texts and practice books etc. Structured language will be taught in the context of situations and personalised topics and you will begin to cope with a variety of less predictable real life situations.
By the end of the module you should be able to:
Demonstrate an understanding and use of grammatical structures and a range of vocabulary;
Speak confidently on a variety of topics in Spanish;
Articulate in formal and informal written texts in Spanish the appropriate use of the grammatical structures covered in the module;
Read and understand selected authentic texts from the Spanish Press; Listen to, understand and respond to spoken Spanish taken from authentic sources covering a range of contexts;
Convey an increased understanding of Spanish culture and society

Teaching and learning methods

Practical language classes involving both whole-group and small group/pair work activities, with emphasis on communicative settings, use of visual aids and audio/video recordings and the Internet. Language laboratories may be used where appropriate
