This module will further consolidate, develop and extend listening, reading, speaking and writing skills acquired in Ab Initio Spanish V. Receptive and productive skills will be developed within a range of specific registers and contexts in Spanish by the use of authentic materials, text and practice books etc. Structures language will continue to be taught in the context of situations and personalised topics and you will be enabled to cope with a wide variety of less predictable real life situations.
By the end of the module you should be able to:
Demonstrate an increased understanding and use of grammatical structures and a broader range of vocabulary;
Speak more confidently and with more fluency on a variety of topics in Spanish in which opinions are expressed, topics discussed and presentations given;
Articulate in formal and informal written texts in Spanish knowledge about topics, conveyance of information and the appropriate use of the grammatical structures covered in the course;
Read and understand selected authentic texts from the Spanish press, extract information and form opinions;
Listen to, understand and respond to spoken Spanish taken from authentic sources covering a range of contexts specifically linked to topics;
Convey a deeper understanding of Spanish culture and society.
Practical language classes involving both whole-group and small group/pair work activities, with emphasis on communicative settings, use of visual aids and audio/video recordings and the Internet. Language laboratories may be used where appropriate
