This module will provide a solid foundation for the study of Arabic language and culture for students with no previous knowledge of Arabic. It begins by introducing the alphabet and sound system then moves on to teach the primary structures of phrases and sentences. It emphasises the functional use of the language in daily life situations featuring spontaneous use of the language in situations like: Greetings and Introductions, talking about family, accommodation, daily activities, food and drink, work, etc.
The course aims to develop basic productive skills (speaking and writing) as well as receptive skills (listening and reading). It also aims to equip students with language strategies for communicative competence. Students will be given opportunities to work in a group as well as individually.
