Module description

This module will provide a solid foundation for the study of Chinese language and culture for you who have learnt Chinese for one semester. The course aims to develop basic productive skills (speaking and writing) as well as receptive skills (listening and reading). It also aims to equip you with language strategies for communicative competence. You will become more familiar with Chinese pronunciation and characters. Aspects of modern Chinese society will be introduced. You will be given opportunities to work in a group as well as individually.

Teaching and learning methods

5-6 hours per week of practical language classes involving both whole-group and small group / pair-work activities with emphasis on communicative settings, use of visual aids and audio/video recordings, use of language laboratory where appropriate
