Module description

This module will build upon the knowledge acquired in Ab Initio Chinese (Mandarin) III & IV by further developing the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. The emphasis is on the progressive acquisition of a sound grammatical knowledge of Chinese and further Chinese character learning. You will develop the receptive skills (listening and reading) as well as the productive skills (speaking in daily situations and writing short compositions).
The course will also aim to equip you in depth with new structures while revising and consolidating past knowledge.
You will be given the opportunity to work in a group as well as individually.

Teaching and learning methods

3 hours per week of practical language classes involving both whole-group and small group / pair-work activities with emphasis on communicative settings, use of visual aids and audio/video recordings, use of language laboratory where appropriate
