Module description

This module aims to further develop and extend listening, reading, speaking and writing skills acquired at Intermediate Spanish I & II. More emphasis will be put on development of learning strategies and debating skills. You will learn to cope with a variety of less predictable real-life situations, using a variety of materials in addition to the main textbook: authentic texts, dialogues, interviews, radio and TV programmes and short presentations.

By the end of the module you should be able to:
Read and understand authentic selected articles in Spanish
Listen to and understand native speakers of Spanish at normal speed on selected topics
Express opinions and debate prepared topics
Deliver an oral presentation in Spanish from notes for approx. 10 minutes
Write essays of increasing length and complexity
Work with a variety of Spanish sources including the Internet, newspapers, TV and radio programmes

Teaching and learning methods

Practical language classes involving both whole-group and small group/pair work activities, with emphasis on communicative settings, use of visual aids and audio/video recordings and the Internet. Language laboratories may be used where appropriate
