Module description

The module examines the main problems concerning different artistic activities: intellectual training for writers and artists, the art market and the 'taste' of the period, patronage (both lay and religious). It considers the different historical and cultural aspects of life, looking at political and religious ceremonies and rituals, as well as family life. It also focuses on the main institutions which form the core of court cultural life: universities, schools, academies, monasteries and convents. Finally, it examines the social norms and laws in relationships concerning aspects of everyday life, such as criminality, prostitution, poverty and marginalisation.
