Module description

The study of four distinctive moments in Italian writing of the 20th century leads to the close analysis of key texts and discussion of the issues they raise.

1. 1989 Futurism: tradition and the new (Marinetti).
2. 1922-25 Theatre and Poetry - the loss of the subject (Pirandello, Montale).
3. 1958-63 Life-writing: history and memory (Levi, Ginzburg).
4. 1977-80 New Speakers: voices and identities (Rame, Tondelli).

The module will help to locate these writings in a context of cultural and political history.
