Module description
This module will continue the work done in semester one and will examine in detail: various techniques aimed at the analysis of essay titles; the choice of logical ordering criteria and the preparation of essay plans in Italian; issues of register, lexis and style appropriate to essay writing in Italian.
It will further examine the techniques that pertain to the summarising from English into Italian texts of various types, and written in various styles and registers, from selecting and discriminating between essential and marginal elements in the English text to the rendering of various grammatical, syntactical, lexical and idiomatic features into Italian.
Teaching and learning methods
There will be one contact hour per week. A dedicated part of the Departmental WebCT section contains information and additional practice material for this course.
Assessment
Two 50-minute assessed pieces (1 essay, 1 summary), counting 50% towards the mark for this module.
One 2-hour written examination, held in May/June, counting 50% towards the mark for this module.
