Intertextuality, genre experimentation and the re-writing, parodic or otherwise, of European and more broadly, Western literary models have become conspicuous characteristics of Latin American narrative. That trend had been all the more predominant in recent decades. This course seeks to study these characteristics in a series of works from the last quarter of the last century and to explain them in relation to the evolution of well established literary forms and genres such as the historical novel, the fantastic or the novel of thedictator or even the very notion of literature.
