The module will explore a range of issues relating to the development of Spanish cinema from 1975 until the present day. It will chart how Spanish cinema responded to the change from dictatorship to democracy. The main focus will be on issues of identity which have been explored in new environment dominated by the country's need to redefine itself and produce counter-narratives to that promoted by Franco's regime. Under the general heading of identity, three main areas will be highlighted for special analysis: national identity, the re-evaluation of history, and gender and sexuality.
