The module studies in depth topics related to the contemporary history of Latin America, principally in the second half of the twentieth century. The topics include Cuba since the Revolution; The Allende and Pinochet regimes in Chile; political violence in Peru; and relations between Latin America and the United States. The approach is comparative, and this is reflected in the titles of assessed essays and of student presentations. The module is delivered by means of a one-hour lecture and a one-hour interactive session, using audio-visual materials, students presentations and discussions.
