This course aims to explore questions about the universe and existence in relation to chance, possibility, causation, and explanation. We shall look at questions like: Does every fact have an explanation? Why is there anything at all? Is it possible that there could have been absolutely nothing? Can the universe as a whole be the product of accident? Can there be chance in a deterministic world? Can we infer that there is a multi-verse from the fact that our universe seems to be fine-tuned for life? Can we infer that it is probable that the human race will be extinct quite soon?
