Module description

The module studies the historical and contemporary interactions between Islam and the Western world. It begins by defining the terms Islam and the West, and then gives a brief account of the historical contacts between the two, assessing in the process their contemporary relationship. The image of Islam in the West will be discussed, together with the reasons behind its distortion. The module will also cover the impact of September 11 terrorist attacks on the US, and the subsequent war on terror and their implications on world peace and conflicts and future relations between the West and the Muslim nations.
