This module looks at creative interventions with communities (creative interventions are projects/schemes that are designed to impact on the life, skills or environment of the targeted community, and do not necessarily involve the community to provide a stimulus for awareness or reflection). This module builds on the knowledge and understanding of the two previous community studies modules of the degree. Underpinning these interventions are the key concepts of community, education, empowerment, equity, participation and personal responsibility. These concepts will be explored in a very practical way during this module, as will key themes around community work and informal education in different contexts. Students will be expected to understand the concept of personal responsibility and what it means to their work. They will be encouraged to reflect on and keep a record of their observations and experiences (both personal and professional) of community-based interventions. They will also be asked to plan and design an example of an intervention within a community-based context.
