Module description

This module enables participants to explore in more detail aspects of life long learning, particularly in formal settings such as schools and colleges, although informal teaching and learning are also discussed. The first part of the module is focused on understanding both typical and atypical development with particular emphasis on the development of learning, cognitive style, learning strategies and problem solving. The next part is focused on teaching approaches, with particular emphasis on (supported) literacy and numeracy. The last sections of the module are specifically set in schools and colleges and enable consideration of some of the current issues in education such as curriculum planning, progression, assessment, recording and reporting achievement with relation to the group of learners who have severe, profound and complex needs.
