This specialist pathway module provides students with further knowledge, skills and values to work effectively with children and families. The module will encourage students to critically analyse and reflect upon the complex nature of child-care practice and enable them to practise as child-centred, competent and confident child care professionals. Students will learn to deal with these complex issues both systematically and creatively and will be able to suggest and analyse original approaches to tackling and solving problems. Throughout this module students will identify and address issues of oppression and discrimination in their work with children and families, particularly children living apart from their families. Research evidence from Government reviews and enquiries will be an important part of the learning for this module and students will learn how the boundaries of knowledge and practice are advanced through research.
