Module description

This module is designed to support and inform managers' practice in supervising and managing the performance of staff for effective service delivery in multi-disciplinary agencies. The module is both theoretical and experiential, and it offers participants the opportunity to identify, practice, develop and evaluate their own skills in the management of performance and supervision. The module offers theoretical research-based knowledge on which students may ground an evaluation of the impact of supervision on the development of best practice. At this postgraduate level, students will critically analyse the influence of governmental priorities and those of the organisation on the performance management function, in terms of achievement of targets and outcomes. Students will analyse and critically challenge organisational theory and research evidence for the impact of supervision on the development of staff competence in service delivery. Students will also challenge and assess their own skills and practice in supervision and appraisal of staff.
