Module description

This module will provide an opportunity for a more broad-brush consideration of the links between crime control and other areas of public policy. It will discuss the political, legal and managerial structures and processes that shape both the national crime control agenda and the responses of different local agencies to it. It will place crime control initiatives concerned with community safety and crime reduction in the wider context of policies designed to address both specific issues (e.g.social exclusion; education; health; housing) and strategies concerned the socio-economic needs of particular geographical areas or social groups. It will also consider specific mechanisms for 'joining up' crime reduction with other public services, such as Sec 17 of the Crime & Disorder Act 1998 and Local Area Agreements.
