This module is designed to support and inform those supervising the practice of social work students and also other staff in multi-disciplinary settings within Social Care, Health and Offender Management settings. It is offered at C, H and M Levels in order to faciliate access as widely as possible in order to meet the learning needs of particpants and promote progression within their organisation. The learning outcomes at each level detail the expected outcomes consistent with that level and reflect not just the student's practical experience to date, but also the level of understanding of theoretical issues.
It is both a theoretical and experiential module, which offers participants the opportunity not only to identify and practice the skills of supervision and assessment in the workplace, but also to bring a critically evaluative approach to the impact of supervision on practice. This applies particularly to supervision and assessment in diverse settings, which promotes equality of opportunity and anti-oppressive practice.
The module is a 'stand alone' module which forms connections in two ways:
-
It facilitates wider access to the Cert DIPP through the potential for APEL on to Module 1 of the Programme;
-
-
It will form an integral part of the Birmingham Academy of Managers Suite of Programmes where it will form links facilitating woder access to both the Cert DIPP (Practice Development Route) and the proposed Management Certificates to be run in partnership with INLOGOV. This module is designed specifically in response to agency need. Specifically this reflects (i) learning for staff managing the practice of others within interprofessional settings; and (ii) the need for practice supervisory staff to accommodate the increased numbers of students requiring placements as a result of the inception of the BA Social Work at this University.
