Module description

The module introduces key underpinning social policy theoretical concepts such as citizenship, social exclusion and social capital and current issues within social policy formation and delivery. Students will be able to develop their understanding and theoretical knowledge of the overall context of policy making in the welfare and health fields. Competing ideologies influencing current policy debates, including a consideration of the role of service 'users', will be examined.

The module draws on five sessions from the existing module British Social Policy - Beyond Welfare selected to address the issues and concepts of key concern to practitioners in the social, welfare and health fields.
