Module description

The module enables candidates working towards reaccreditation as an Approved Mental Health Professional to submit work for assessment, demonstrating that they have met the requirements of the GSCC's Higher Specialist award (which has only been established since their initial qualification) concerning their understanding of the legislative framework within which Approved Mental Health Professional practice takes place and its use in practice.
Syllabus

  • Civil liberties and mental health legislation: principles of legislation including consideration of matters of public interest and individual welfare. The retreat of the 1990s: the implications for AMHP decision-making.
  • Assessing risk: principles and a framework for practice.
  • The framework of the Mental Health Act 1983, as amended by the Menatl Health Act 2007, and the Code of Practice
  • Looking forward: the impact of recent mental health policy initiatives; the Mental Health Act 2007 and the Mental Capacity Act 2005
