This module builds on the foundations set by the Primary Health Care and Management module and aims to extend and deepen participants' understanding of the principles of primary care policy and management. It does this by a more intensive exploration of the topics within the module, challenging students to develop their knowledge and question some of their belief systems in order to reach a more extensive and robust conclusions about the role and place of primary care; the role of the private sector in a publicly funded health service; international comparisons in primary care; the politics of primary care; links between primary care and local government; changing work force patterns in primary care; and future developments in primary care within wider NHS reform.
