Module description

The aim of this module is to introduce participants to concepts and practices in governance and the debates and developments which governance has engendered in academic and practitioner policy circles. The objectives are to provide students with (i) grounding in the principles of governance/good governance, (ii) understanding of practices and problems in governance, and (iii) critical and analytical skills which they can apply to real cases. Content includes principles of governance/good governance; the role of the state, civil society and the private sector in governance; the nature of public accountability, forms of democracy; human rights; access to justice; ethics; corruption and institutional aspects of governance.
