Module description
This module will examine in detail the character and development of the most important modern ideologies: liberalism, conservatism and socialism; also feminism, environmentalism, anarchism and nationalism.
It will look at how these ideologies have developed historically, at the social and political changes to which they were responding and to some characteristic debates surrounding them.
Teaching and learning methods
These courses are taught by a combination of lectures, classes and directed reading.

Autumn term only 10 credit unit – 3,000 word assessed essay
Spring term only 10 credit unit – 3,000 word assessed essay
Whole Year 20 credit unit – 3,000 word summative essay (50%) plus 3 hour examination (50%)
