Module description

This module will introduce students to the main interpretations of change in British politics during the post-war period. Topics covered will include the post-war consensus, 'Thatcherism', 'Blairism', constitutional reform in Britain and Britain's relationship with Europe.


The second semester will examine in detail broad trends in British politics, contemporary interpretations of change in postwar British politics and key developments in British public policy.


Teaching and learning methods

These courses are taught by a combination of lectures, classes and directed reading.

Autumn term only 10 credit unit – 3,000 word assessed essay
Spring term only 10 credit unit – 3,000 word assessed essay
Whole Year 20 credit unit – 4,000 word assessed essay (50%) and 3 hour examination (50%).
