Module description
This module exposes students to a variety of techniques available to solve partial differential equations. Solution can be constructed by combining known solutions to the problem or by direct analytical calculations. Numerous chemical and biological phenomena are modelled by non-linear ODE's for example chemical reactions and voltage clamped nerve cells. Incorporating spatial heterogeneity in such models yields parabolic PDE's with non-linear interaction kinetics, often referred to as reaction-diffusion equations. In this module, such equations and their application are investigated in detail.
