Module description

This module introduces the technology associated with recycling. Established technologies such as metal, paper and glass recovery will be contrasted with newer approaches. Good and bad examples from around the UK and the world of doorstop sorting. The packaging problem. A case study of energy from waste schemes such as Tyseley Waste Disposal will be used to introduce the principles and problems. Technologies for energy generation will build on the knowledge gained in levels 1 and 2. Whole life costing techniques to take account of sustainability, log based rather than exponential based methods. Arup case study. A catalogue of materials that are suitable for recycling will be made.
