Module description

This module provides an introduction to river basin management by examining the hydrological processes and runoff at a catchment scale. Initially the basic concepts of hydrology will be presented, with the lectures emphasising the theoretical aspects and the tutorial exercises providing illustrations of design practice. The individual hydrological processes of precipitation, evaporation, infiltration and interception will be described, together with their methods of measurement. The topics of groundwater hydrology, hydrograph analysis, statistical and urban hydrology are then related to practical problems, illustrated through tutorial exercises.
