The module aims to develop skills associated the ability to discover and learn the fundamental elements of a subject independently, to gather, organise and distil information from various sources, to summarise the information succinctly, to draw general conclusions from fragmentary or possibly conflicting data and to present the essential features and the conclusions clearly and coherently.
The Guided Study requires the student to investigate a topic in Civil Engineering, broad or specific in nature, to search for and accumulate relevant documents and information from other sources and to present the essential features in a form which would permit planning of a further programme of professional work. Students should propose suitable topics (In some cases a particular subject area must be chosen to compensate for a narrow choice of option modules).
