Module description

This is the first of two linked modules introducing students to the design process and professional skills employed in the materials engineering discipline.

Design and Professional Skills A will cover: Problem definition and specification - setting clear objectives based on technical, legislative and socio-economic contexts. Design project management - planning, budget, time management, monitoring, teamwork. Types of design - Original, Adaptive or Variant. Design process - Conceptual, Preliminary and Detailed. Design communication - Illustration, documentation and oral presentation of design outcomes using appropriate IT-based methods.
