This module represents the discipline-specific part of the Materials Design and Professional Skills module for level 1 Engineering students. It produces Metallurgy and Materials Engineering students to the application of design processes employed in original equipment manufacturers, component manufacturers and materials manufacturers for the transportation industries.
Students will learn the design specification, legislation and recycling background required for the selection of materials and manufacturing processes for cars and aeroplanes. This knowledge will be applied in a Design and Build project exercise.
This module will cover: Materials in design, Evolution of engineering materials in transportation, Interaction between function, material, process and shape, Elementary materials and processing selection methods.
