The module extends knowledge of materials design and professional skills employed in the materials engineering discipline.



Semester 1:


Materials selection in mechanical design - materials selection charts, materials index, case studies on materials selections
Problem based learning on aspects of material/process selection and material characterisation for specified applications (e.g. heart valves, metallic hip & knee protheses,) using case studies.(b)




Semester 2:


Background on CAD, CAD exercise using Solidworks software. Problem based learning on aspects of material/process selection and material characterisation for specified applications (e.g. corrosion of hip protheses, magnets in medicine) using case studies.(d)
