The College of Social Sciences consists of the following Schools, all of which offer Applicant Visit Days. This page gives you a flavour of how Applicant Visit Days are delivered across the College.
Birmingham Business School
School of Education
School of Government and Society
School of Social Policy
Once you have an offer from one of those schools, you will be contacted automatically with details about the Applicant Visit Days and programme for the day well in advance.
If you haven’t yet applied to the University but want the opportunity to take a look around and learn more about the courses on offer – then join us at one of our general Open Days held throughout the year.
1. Will I be invited to an Applicant Visit Day?
Applicant Visit Days are for applicants who hold an offer for one of our courses. Attendance at Applicant Visit Days are therefore by invitation only. Each School within the College of Social Sciences is different and so the programme for the day will vary depending on the course you have applied for.
2. When will I be invited?
Applicant Visit Days are held at various points between October and March, dependent on the number of applications and the point at which they are received.
However, due to high demand for some of our courses we would recommend that you accept our invitation to one of our Applicant Visit Days as soon as you receive it.
Parents/carers or guardians are also very welcome to attend our Applicant Visit Days. Don't forget to tell us if you are bringing someone with you when you accept our invitation - so that we can provide enough refreshments, lunch and tours for guests too.
3. What happens at an Applicant Visit Day in the College of Social Sciences?
Each school within the College of Social Sciences is different and so the programme for the day wil lvary depending on the course you have applied for. However, they will all offer:
- A warm welcome from the Admissions Tutors or Senior Academic in the School
- The opportunity to meet fellow applicants
- Lunch
- Opportunities to have tours of campus and key buildings related to your course
- An opportunity to see Halls of Residence and hear about other accommodation options
In addition to the activities above, some Schools will organise some other activities such as team building exercises, talks given by current students and taster lectures.
To learn more about the Applicant Visit Day programme in a particular School, please contact the School directly.
4. Do I need to prepare anything?
If you are attending an Applicant Visit Day it is unlikely that you will be requested to prepare anything in advance. However, it is advisable to do your research beforehand so you are prepared with any questions you would like to ask of the academic staff or current students. Of course, the Applicant Visit Day won’t be the only opportunity that you’ll have to ask questions, but it will be the best opportunity to meet with people from the academic department or School face-to-face.
5. How do I book to attend?
You will be invited to attend an Applicant Visit Day. Details of the day with instructions on how to register will be provided on your invitation. Some departments will send invitations by post and others via email.
