Accommodation for presessional students

If you are attending the University of Birmingham presessional summer school courses and wish to live in University accommodation while you’re studying with us, you’ll need to complete our online application making sure you select the presessional 2015 classification. Applications are NOW open.

University accommodation for 20 and 15 week presessional students

Availability of University self-catering accommodation is very limited at this time of year so you’ll be allocated a room in a flat where there is a vacancy, this may be a room in a undergraduate or a postgraduate flat. The approximate accommodation fee ranges from £85 a week for a self-catered flat with shared facilities, to £179 a week for an en suite Meal Plan room (Meal Plan rooms are our catered accommodation and further information can be found online.)
Masonlake accommodation

 If we are able to offer you accommodation, you will receive your offer before you arrive and after you’ve submitted your online application. There are two types of contract length you may be offered:

  • Accommodation contract length: until 5 September 2015
    if we can offer you a postgraduate room in accommodation, the contract will run until 5 September 2015, postgraduate contracts are longer than undergraduate contracts. Once you have received your offer you will be required to make the full payment online to secure your accommodation. By accepting the contract you are agreeing to pay for and remain in the accommodation you have been allocated until the end of the contract period.
  • Accommodation contract length: until 11 July 2015
    if you are offered a room in undergraduate accommodation, this contract will end on 11 July 2015. Once you have received your offer you will be required to make the full payment online to secure your accommodation. By accepting the contract you are agreeing to pay for and remain in the accommodation you have been allocated until the end of the contract period.
  • If after your contract has ended you wish to stay in university accommodation for the remainder of your presessional course, you will remain in your room until the weekend of the 11 July, where you will then be relocated to Pritchatts Park Village to live in shared accommodation for the summer period until 12 September 2015. Your accommodation for the period from 11 July to 12 September will be £120 a week, which includes a twice weekly clean to the communal areas.
  • Alternatively you may choose to vacate your accommodation on 11 July and move to the private sector for the remainder of your presessional course, which would also commit you to living in the private sector for the start of the academic year 2015/16. Private sector contracts usually start on the 1 July 2015 and run for a full 12 months. For more information on the private sector please take a look at our Private rented accommodation page. Remain in student accommodation: If you wish to stay in University accommodation for the academic year 2015/2016 after your presessional course, you must complete and submit a second online application form for the academic year 2015-2016. Applications are open now and close on the 31 July 2015 for international students. You can apply using our online accommodation application form selecting either postgraduate or undergraduate depending on your course. Please note if you are successful in your application for accommodation you will receive an offer of accommodation from us in September 2015, you will be expected to pay a £550 pre-payment to secure your room.

University accommodation for 10, 6 and 4 week presessional students

You will be allocated university accommodation at either Pritchatts Park Village or the Vale Village, which wll be entirely self-catered and includes the following residences:

  • Pritchatts House Global Community, Pritchatts Park Village, shared facilities
  • Oakley Court, Pritchatts Park Village, shared facilities
  • Ashcroft, Pritchatts Park Village shared facilities
  • Elgar Court, Vale Village, en suite accommodation
  • Tennis Court, Vale Village, shared facilities

The costs for accommodation are outlined below and the accommodation contract will run until the 12 September 2015 (if you are undertaking a 4 week presessional course you can remain in student accommodation until 16 September 2015):

  • £120 per week for a room with shared facilities
  • £130 per week for a duplex room (two people to one bathroom)
  • £150 per week for an en suite room

All accommodation includes a twice-weekly clean, bedding and basic crockery and cutlery for the use of all students in the kitchens

Kitchen in student flatYou won’t be able to choose your exact location but you can specify on your application form whether you would prefer en suite or shared facilities or a studio, however please note these are subject to availability.

Once you have received your offer you will be required to make the full payment online to secure your accommodation. By accepting the contract you are agreeing to pay for and remain in the accommodation you have been allocated until the end of the contract period.

Accommodation options for continuing your studies with the University for the academic year 2015/16

Remain in student accommodation: If you wish to stay in University accommodation for the academic year 2015/2016 after your presessional course, you must complete and submit a second online application form for the academic year 2015-2016. Applications are open now and close on the 31 July 2015 for international students. You can apply using our online accommodation application  form selecting either postgraduate or undergraduate depending on your course. Please note if you are successful in your application for accommodation you will receive an offer of accommodation between July- September 2015, you will be expected to pay a £550 pre-payment to secure your room.

Move to the private sector:if after completing your presessional course you wish to live in the private sector, please read the following information which provides useul guidance on house hunting in the local area. You may also wish to view the Guild Lettings website, who work in partnership with the University to ensure students find good quality accommodation.
