House hunting event 14 - 17 September 2014

The House Hunting  Event has been organised to assist you with finding accommodation within the private sector for the forthcoming academic year

Accommodation Services aim to make your transition to the University of Birmingham as easy and stress-free as possible.  This is a new and exciting time for you and we would like to be a part of it by assisting with information to ensure that you choose the right accommodation.

The fun ice-breaking games, along with the help of friendly, informative Student Helpers, means you will not only make many new friends but share some great memories whilst finding accommodation for your time at the university.  There will be guided Campus, Selly Oak and City Centre Tours where you will be able to stop off and sample the cuisine.

The house hunting event runs from Sunday 14th September to Wednesday 17th September 2014. En-suite accommodation is provided for the duration of the event at Mason, which is located on The Vale Village: a relaxing, conservation area with its own lake and wildlife.  Accommodation is available on a Bed, Breakfast and Evening Meal basis only, but student helpers will be on hand to assist with local eateries for lunch.   On arrival please report to The Vale Reception, ground floor of Shackleton where friendly and helpful staff will be on hand to assist with your accommodation.

For just £205, you will receive all of the above along with staff and student helpers on hand to assist with the search and viewings of properties as well as the assurance that there will be someone there to assist with any queries you may have.

Sunday 14 September – There will be a welcome meeting with refreshments when you will have time to meet the other participants in a warm and relaxing atmosphere. At 2.00pm there will be a brief introduction talk with some fun ice-breaking games to make everyone feel at home.

For those with any energy left there will also be a campus tour to familiarise you with the University prior to the start of term followed by a BBQ and games night.

Monday 15 September  – Following breakfast there will be an informative and enriching House Hunting seminar that will give you general information regarding the University as well as equipping you with the knowledge to choose the right accommodation.

Hopefully, you will then have a better idea of who you wish to share with and the staff and student helpers can then assist with matching you with the appropriate accommodation.  When you have chosen several properties, the student helpers will assist you with arranging the viewing and will accompany you to view the accommodation.  Staff are on hand to check the contract and explain any clauses you may not understand.

In the evening, let our helpful and experienced student helpers take you on a City Centre / Broad Street tour where the famous Bull Ring Shopping Centre is located, and then explore the regular hangout of students during term time. The tour aims to familiarise you with the city and what it has to offer.

Tuesday 16 September – Following breakfast there will be a full day for those still searching for the perfect accommodation.

In the evening we have arranged a quiet night with film and pizza so that you can relax following a hectic couple of days searching.  Alternatively, if you are up for it our student helpers will be available for a tour along Bristol Road whereby all the eateries, pubs, bars and shops around the University will be introduced to you for your future convenience.  You could stay and enjoy a pint of beer and relax after a busy few days securing your accommodation.

Wednesday 17 September  – After breakfast, you will be required to vacate your room no later than 10.00am and return keys to The Vale Reception.
