The campus environment

Aston Webb BuildingBirmingham is the original campus-based university. Occupying 276 acres of green and leafy parkland in the suburbs of Edgbaston and Selly Oak, the campus provides students with a beautiful environment for their teaching and learning experience.

The University boasts some of the finest Victorian architecture alongside innovative modern buildings, including the Henry Wellcome Building containing our Nuclear Magnetic Resonance facility, and the Institute of Archaeology and Antiquity’s Visual and Spatial Technology Centre. This combination of modern and traditional buildings, housing cutting-edge technology and modern learning resources, provides a unique environment for our students.

Safety on campus and accommodation

A student's time at university should be safe and worry-free, which is why at Birmingham we place great emphasis on the safety of our students on campus. The University's security team works 24-hours a day, 365 days a year in partnership with West Midlands Police. They cover Edgbaston and Selly Oak campuses as well as all University-owned halls of residence. All University accommodation is equipped with CCTV and we have our own Community Police Officer based in the University Centre shopping mall on campus.
