Birmingham prides itself on its reputation for sporting excellence. This has been reflected in our consistent top three ranking for inter-varsity sport in the UK. In 2008, three University alumni competed at the Beijing Olympic Games, including the gold medal-winning cyclist Paul Manning, and we continue to attract students with excellent sporting pedigrees.
We offer a comprehensive and imaginative programme of sporting opportunities for all levels of ability, supported by extensive indoor and outdoor facilities, mainly located on the Edgbaston campus. Facilities include three sports halls, a gym and weights room, a specialist gymnastics hall, tennis courts, a floodlit athletics track, a martial arts room, health suite, a dance studio, international standard water-based synthetic pitches and a dedicated Sports Medicine Human Performance and Fitness Services Unit. In addition we have our own outdoor pursuits centre based in the Lake District.
Competitive sports scholarships are also available to students competing at national and international level.
