Do you have students in Year 10 curious about HE?
Are you looking for exciting opportunities to raise their aspirations?
Do they come from backgrounds where higher education is not normally an option?
Will they be achieving 5 GCSEs A*- C in their exams?
Are they interested in careers in health or the ‘professions’?
If so, the University of Birmingham Year 10 Your Future – Your Choice Residential event is for them!
Your Future – Your Choice will give your students an opportunity to find out what it is like to study at university, and in particular a research-led institution like Birmingham.
In addition to our well established Health Careers programme, this year sees the introduction of a new programme, which will focus on subject areas within Humanities and Social Sciences and how these could lead into careers in the professions.
This event is free of charge and open to students in West Midlands state schools.
We will prioritise young people using a range of the indicators below:-
Eligibility for free school meals
Parents/guardians/carers unemployed or in semi-skilled/manual occupations
Disadvantaged home postcode
No parental experience of Higher Education
Students who have a disability and/or learning difficulty
Students who are in the care system
Students will stay in a University Hall of Residence, follow a programme of social activities and experience a taste of university life. All students are given support and guidance by our student ambassadors who are current undergraduates at the University.
10-12 July 2013
15-17 July 2013
Students will attend lectures and seminars in health related subjects and so must demonstrate a broad interest in this subject area.
