Perspectives on Globalisation and Development. Impact of transnationals on product and labour markets. Transnationals and the international economic system. Case Studies on the role of transnationals in Central and Eastern Europe and Japan.
By the end of the module the student should have:
A clear idea of the determinants of international trade; the rationale behind trade policy; differential impact of economic globalisation in various parts of the world; the determinants of international growth with a focus in institutions versus culture or geography; the role of globalisation in bringing about peace.
Students will be able to enter into the economic disourse regarding the international economy and the differential impact of globalisation in different parts of the world.
2 hour final exam (60%), one 2,500 essay (semester 1 - 20%) and a 50 minute term test (semester 2 - 20%).
