Regenerating Urban Communities

Second year module

This module is designed to explore the experience of communities undertaking urban regeneration by means of concentrated study in the field. The module will be delivered in the case study community of Castle Vale in Birmingham and will be attended by members of the community as participants. The module will cover the theory and policy context of regeneration in British urban communities and explore the impact upon these communities and their involvement in the process through in-depth study of The Castle Vale experience.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the module the student will be able to: Understand and explain the policy context of urban regeneration; Identify and analyse the key issues and processes that affect particular communities and their engagement with regeneration; Explicate the issues and impacts on a local community that relate to the involvement of various stakeholders in the regeneration process; Work as an effective member of the team.
